FACEBOOK VS ORKUT

FACEBOOK VS GOOGLE’S ORKUT
I was surprised to find out that almost 50% of 20-40 age in Nigeria have being involved with one social media or the other. And no doubt, that sites like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Orkut and Linked In are very popular in Nigeria today. Partly because they are major Social Media site with high traffic and in demand.
Social Media is now the number 1 activity on the web - yes that's right, it is bigger than traditional advertising. donanza home base business report held that social networking sites has now grown more than tradition search engines like yahoo, msn and google. According to this report, In 2010, Social Media Marketing projects have grown by 67%, compared to 2009.

"This shift towards Social Marketing indicates that businesses believe that the potential value of social marketing is higher than any other online marketing channel", said Liran Kotzer, CEO of DoNanza. "I believe there are many reasons for this: first, the huge number of people spending their time on social environments such as Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, and the fact that social networks are here to stay and people are learning how to use them for business. In addition, many social media campaigns are more visible and easier to measure and understand than some of the methods used for in search engine marketing.

Facebook is perhaps the largest social marketing site in Nigeria today. With a total of about 3 million users, it’s no surprise that many Nigerian businesses are now using Facebook as an advertisement avenue. There are now more hits on average every day on Facebook than on Google. Enjoy still enjoy the number 1 spot when it comes to using the search engine but when it comes to social networking, Google’s Orkut is by far nowhere near Facebook. even though Orkut worked quite well initially, it started declining when Facebook started reigning.

in Orkut the things visible to you on your homepage are just your profile details and your scrapbook, which contain only the scraps directed towards you. If you had to find out what was going on with other people, you'd have to visit their profiles and check their scrapbooks to see what they're up to. Facebook on the other hand lets you see your friends update and even pictures they update. Facebook is a great way to expose your business to the world and also connect with many Nigerian users.

Google will continue to enjoy the number one spot when it comes to search engine but not social networking. This is just my opinion, Facebook? No one knows how long it will last but for now lets enjoy the experience and achievement of technological advancement.

How Do Facebook Ads Work?

Nigerian Facebook Ads how it Works?

Because of the popularity of Facebook and the hundreds of thousands of opportunities that it can give, many online marketers are using Facebook ads to gain wider exposure and also grow their business. But Facebook is strict with regards to advertising and they won't accept just any kind of ads that people will place on their site, so you have to follow their rules.

Facebook is strict on everything you place on the ads, the texts words, symbols, images and everything. This is their way of making sure that you understand what you are trying to get across and also knowing what to expect out of these ads.
Facebook advertising can give additional benefits to marketers aside from wide reach, and this is through its ad cost, which is cheaper compared to other ad campaigns. If you have an ad with Facebook it means that you have to do the following things:

You have to enter the destination URL of your ads. This is the URL link which will lead people to, after they make a click on your Facebook ads.You have to provide the title of the link. This is the attractive title text that can arouse the interest of people and pay attention to your ads.The next thing is to provide the ad is body texts. This is the short body of your ads which indicate what you want to get across. Then you have to provide an image for your ads.

You can choose to use the resources of Facebook in providing these images or you can provide it yourself. If you have an ad in Facebook, you can use your Facebook fan page as your landing page. There are so many benefits that you can get out of your Facebook ads and how these ads can work for you can be summed up with the following things:

You can create a custom landing page on Facebook. This is what is previously mentioned where new visitors will see and this is like your home page on this social site.

You can have images at the top of your Facebook fan page. With this opportunity you can even have images of your products placed on these pages.Facebook can let you have options of new visitors clicking to "like" your fan page before they can get to your other contents.

This can be your way of increasing the number of your fans. With frequent updates made on your fan page or business page you can provide quality contents to your followers. With people getting to your page through your ads, informative contents can be gained which can possibly motivate them to make some actions. This article was contributed by 6311154

How to Use Facebook Advertising for Your Business in Nigeria

With more than 650 million users, Facebook is a great place for Nigerian business owners to gain some great visibility, and that visibility can be targeted to a specific audience. Sure, most people think of Facebook as a place to stay in touch with friends, but business owners understand the value of Facebook advertising.

Just take a look at the right sidebar on any Facebook page and you will see what I mean. All of those Facebook advertisements are set up to get you, the targeted audience to take a look at what that business has to offer, and has been set up to be viewed by as many or few as desired.

Here is a little information about how you can use Facebook advertising to help build your own Nigerian business.

Target your Audience

One great feature of Facebook advertising is that you can set it up to be viewed by a selected group of people. That could be by age or gender as well as geographic area. You can also set up your target audience according to education, workplace, and relationship status. Keywords are another way to target your audience while utilizing Facebook management tactics.

After you have decided on your audience, you will have to determine where you want to direct your potential clients. That could be to your own website or to an affiliate link. It could also be to a lead capture page if you are building a list.

Decide on Your Advertising Budget
Facebook advertising can be done on a cost per click or cost per thousand basis. Research has been done on the effectiveness of each of these models and it seems that the cost per click is the best way to get the most return on your investment.
When you begin your campaign, you will need to decide on a daily budget and set your Facebook management to that number. Once that number has been achieved, your ad will not be shown to any other users. These numbers can be adjusted as you can determine the effectiveness of your ad.

Test Your Advertising
It does not matter where you are spending your advertising money, you should always test to make sure that you have made a wise investment. Facebook advertising is no different. By creating multiple ads and placing each one on your Facebook management tool, you will be able to see which ones are most effective, and when that is determined, you will be able to cancel those that are not performing well. It could be as easy as changing the image to attract the attention of your audience that makes the difference between ads.

The Next Step is Analysis
Facebook advertising allows you to analyze how your ads are doing with the Facebook Insights tool. This tool will help you to better understand the interests and demographics of those who are actually clicking on your ads, and which keywords caught their interest.

Better Facebook management is the key to success for your business in this Internet marketing world. this article was contributed by one of our contributors

Nigeran Social Media Marketing - Six Facts To Help Your Small Business

When marketing in Social Media to enhance your small business, always look for new ways to proceed. In the network today an owner needs to find a cost effective way to expand the market while still getting the most out of it. Social media is the way to go!

By using the Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter social sites you will get your message out there where it is most effective. For those who want to achieve success in social media marketing, here are some ideas to help you out.

A: Start by connecting with the different groups through participation in forums, Facebook sites or niche based blogs. Leave your comments on all of them and soon everyone knows your name and associates that to the business. Make sure to be active on these sites at least three times a week.

B: Professionals have to look the part, so the website must reflect this when designing your pages. All of your social sites should be using the same theme throughout so when somebody sees one it's directly associated to the others. This is the storefront for you and connected to your business.

C: Be helpful and provide information to people, everyone wants help so give it to them. When you post frequently and informatively, people will think of you as a professional and be drawn in by your expertise. Tell a joke to break the ice, always use some humor, like "what's a magazine anyway, well magazines are what people used to advertise in."

D: Social media site accounts won't do anything for you when there isn't a relationship going on between participants. Get involved in the community and start building your business, after all it is only intelligent conversation. Target people in your particular niche and stay connected with them. Give praise to what others have to say, that way you will make lasting friends and recurring customers.

E: Personal goals are very important here, there has to be a place to reach for in order to get there. Try very hard to be consistent with your efforts to achieve this goal and success will be achieved before long. Patience is a virtue that is learned through trial and error and believe me when I say, social media marketing doesn't happen overnight.

F: Make connections with true experts in your field. Relationships here are crucial to succeed in business. Ask for advice whenever possible from them and before you know it, your part of an elite group of professionals. When in the company of these seasoned pro's you will become one as well.

How To Protect Your Nigeria Facebook Page From Hackers

Social networking is so common these days, and with more Nigerian having an account with Facebook, it will definitely be a hot hunting ground for hackers and identity thieves. These types of individuals see this social site as a big area for doing dirty and unethical things. Mark zuckerberg had to council his vacation last year when there was huge criticism about the security of information you place on facebook. The wiki league guy I was reading last month made a statement that FIB is now using facebook data base for their security check. This of course was a topic of much debate. However, if there was truth in what he said, it means that even hackers are aware of these fact and can leverage on this.

And the sad thing is that most Nigerian folks are unaware that data on their profiles, with this social site, can be visible to these hackers and identity thieves. This sad situation can lead to accounts being hacked and data extracted by hackers.

You can protect yourself from hackers on Facebook and prevent your information from being taken without your approval. There are several ways to protect your Facebook page from hackers. here are some of the ways you can protect your information on Facebook.

Don't put your email address on your Facebook profile. Have more than one email address it's free either from google, yahoo or hotmail and if it is already necessary for you to indicate this, you will not be obligated to place everything in your page.

Have different passwords on Facebook and with your email. This will make it difficult for hackers to get access to your real email address.

Placing your date of birth on your Facebook page can put you at risk if ever hackers gain access into your page. Most people usually include their date of births in their passwords and these numbers can give ideas to hackers.

To moderate who can get access to personal data in your Facebook account, change the privacy settings to those people you only allow. With this change in privacy settings you can just decide the people who can see your email address, age, and other personalized data and selective information.

Each time you visit a café, make sure clear your browser by deleting the history. Also make sure you log out and not just leave your facebook page without logging out.

If people want to be your friend in Facebook, have a direct selection process and do not just accept anyone to "friend" you. Folks who have the same family name as you'll request you to be a "friend", but these people may not be a relation and you can't be sure enough of their real purpose.

Do not allow Facebook to use your profile information for ad purposes as this may put you at a great risk. You'll never be certain of what people's agenda and advertisers using these profile information may get you displeased especially if you see your pictures in their ads.

Implementing these techniques and other strategies can help you minimize your chance of being hacked or of hackers from gaining sensitive information about you.
But these are not guarantees that you will never become a victim of hackers.

Five easy techniques to increase your productivity on Facebook

here
Are you struggling to increase your productivity in less time? Do you feel you can or should have achieved more with all the time you are spending on facebook? Below are five easy techniques to boost your output on Facebook.

1. Limit the time you spend on Facebook. Get a timer, set the timer for a predetermined period of time like 45-50 minutes, and decide in advance that you'll limit your Facebook activities to that amount of time.
This approach will not only increase your productivity while you are on Facebook, but it will also motivate you to not aimlessly get on Facebook whenever you are bored and not sure what you should do next (don't worry, we all do it).

2.Make a note of exactly what your desired goals are for Facebook

What is your reason for getting on Facebook in the first place? Will it be in order to network, build up your fan base, sell additional products and services, or simply to take a look at what your friends are doing?
By recognizing the reasons why you use each website, you will be able to catch yourself before you end up mindlessly surfing around, and loosing your drive to get any real work done.

3. Do not beat yourself up if you go astray. Just as in meditation where whenever you realize that the mind has gone off on a tangent, rather than ridiculing yourself, all you need to do is be aware of it, and afterwards casually go back to not thinking. Same thing goes when talking about Social Networking websites.

As soon as you realize that you have been sucked into that all new hilarious viral Youtube video, rather than slamming the top of your head into your pc, simply end the video (after you finished laughing your butt off of course), and go back to the task at hand.

4. Switch off Instant Messages.
we humans have a tendency to believe that we are exceptional at multitasking, and that we can manage many different things simultaneously fairly efficiently. This could not be farther from the truth.
Human's are in reality terrible at paying attention to many things at once. Studies have shown that time and time again, people perform better when then have less interruptions, and focus on fewer things.

A few other research studies indicates that the effects of being focused on several things at once reduces the I.Q. of a person more then smoking marijuana.
We all know that disruptions will invariably occur. However if you minimize these disturbances, and in this case we're talking about those annoying instant messages, you will then be able to get way more things accomplished.

5. Outsource. Let's face it, determining what you have to do to get more business with social media websites can certainly be a difficult task. Many times it seems like you must do so much that it gets overwhelming, and it always is way less of a headache to distract your mind and find out what your friends are doing online.

Many of the activities necessary to increase your business or social network on sites such as Facebook can easily be outsourced to other individuals.
If you don't have an understanding of what exactly has to be done, you might want to seek the services of a Social Media Consultant to assist you or even take over the social media duties. Hiring a Social Media Consultant can free up your time, so you can focus on what is most crucial in your life and/or business.

These are just some ways that can help you make the most out of websites like Facebook, and make certain that you make the most efficient use of your time and energy. . here

Are You Wasting Time On Facebook?

There is no doubt that there are lots of Nigerians on Facebook who are just there to say ‘good morning’ or ‘good night’ Facebook. For this reason, a lot of people consider Facebook to be a total waste of time and energy. Is it true? Yes it is. One only have to look around on the kind of update people post on facebook to see that majority of Nigerian Facebook users are just there a waste time after work or at other times when they are lonely. If you are observant, you will notice that the number of Nigerian Facebook users may be increasing but many old users have since left facebook.

The majority of people spend way too much time on Facebook, surfing around, and not producing much of anything. Will it be right to say that Facebook can’t be used proficiently? I personally believe that the answer is no.

Socializing for socializing sake can hardly bring any good. While the right social networking mindset can bring a lot of gains to an individual. Although for that to happen, an individual will have to be well organized and be able to reduce interruptions. Certainly it is pleasurable to spend time playing the latest online Facebook games or searching through your friends' pictures, but at the end of the day, if you do not balance the "fun time", with actions that will help either yourself or your business, you will start feeling you failed to get anything completed at all.

You should know while you’re on facebook. Another extreme one must check is the idea of going to facebook only to sell a product or just to tell people about your blog post. A lot of marketers do this. They set up fan pages and just do their marketing. While this will bring you gains, in the end it may defeat the purpose of social networking which is connecting with your friends or associate on facebook and also for socializing marketing and not for socializing marketing alone.
As a rule, whenever I’m on my system working, I always check my facebook page last. This has helped me achieve the most work and also conserve time.

Do I Need A Custom Facebook Fan Page for my Nigerian business?

With the popularity of Facebook growing in Nigeria, it's essential that your Nigerian business whether online or offline have a fanpage. With almost 700 million users in the world and more than 3 million users in Nigeria, it's possible that people are talking about your business on Facebook and you may not even know it if you don’t have a fan page on facebook.

Businesses that have a facebook presence are much more advantageous to keep their customers and give their customers the informative they need. Those businesses that don't have a presence on Facebook will be seen by their customers as outdated and won't benefit from flow of viral information common to Facebook users.

Facebook is one of the places where any Nigerian entrepreneur can find huge Nigerian audience. If you’re not a regular user of Facebook, you might want to employ someone to do some task for you like posting your companies update, comments etc.
